Nearly all 120 employees at a Lincoln National Corp. claims processing office in Orange are being laid off as the Indiana company prepares to close the office Dec. 2.

Many of the Orange operations will be consolidated into the Ft. Scott, Kan., headquarters of the firm’s claims processing subsidiary, Lincoln National Administrative Services Corp., according to Robert Jones, a spokesman for the parent company.

About 10 of the employees of the Orange office are expected to relocate to Kansas to continue working for the subsidiary, he said.

“We’ve been closing claims processing offices here and there throughout the country, wherever it’s economically feasible,” Jones said. “We started the consolidating process a few years ago.”

Among Lincoln National’s 14 subsidiaries is its primary insurance firm, Lincoln National Life Insurance Co., which operates through exclusive agencies.

It also operates an employee benefits unit that has four offices in California, including one in Orange County.

Lincoln National Corp., based in Ft. Wayne, Ind., has total assets of $20 billion and annual revenue of about $7 billion, Jones said.
