San Diego State University announced receipt Tuesday of a $16-million contract with the agricultural ministry of Egypt for a 5 1/2-year project to provide that nation’s scientists with technical and research skills.
The contract is the largest ever received by the university for cooperative work with other agencies or nations, a spokeswoman said.
The program will be administered by the San Diego State University Foundation and draw on numerous faculty both at San Diego State, at other universities and agencies, and experts in private industry. Under the contract, 120 Egyptians will be given access to research programs in the United States and Europe, and 728 Egyptians will be trained in short-term technical skills.
The contract grows out of the university’s 7-year-old agricultural research program in Egypt.
