Negotiators for the Newspaper Guild and the Chicago Sun-Times reached agreement on a 40-month contract that averts a threatened strike by editorial employees. The agreement followed two days of hard bargaining, during which the newspaper withdrew its demand for a wage cut. The pact is retroactive to June 1. “The agreement provides for no salary increase for 13 months, a 3% increase for the next 13 months and a 3% increase for the final 14 months,” a statement issued by the newspaper said. A ratification vote was scheduled for Tuesday.
