Sakic, a rookie, has 16 goals and 31 points this season.

Quebec, the leading power-play team in the National Hockey League, scored on two power plays in the first period to take a 3-0 lead.

Sakic scored at 3:05 on a high shot over Brian Hayward’s left shoulder. Latta made it 2-0 at 6:24 on a backhand shot that trickled into the net after a scramble. Sakic then scored from the slot off a pass from Fortier at 10:45.

Quebec increased its lead to 4-0 at 4:21 of the second period when Brown pushed in a rebound of Michel Goulet’s backhand attempt.

Edmonton 4, St. Louis 2--Jimmy Carson and Mark Messier scored 2 goals each to lead the Oilers at St. Louis despite just 13 Edmonton shots on goal.

Esa Tikkanen had 3 assists to help the Oilers record their 7th straight win over the Blues. Edmonton is 12-1-1 against St. Louis since the 1984.

St. Louis outshot Edmonton 26-13 but was 0-for-6 on power plays. Gino Cavallini scored both goals for the Blues.

Carson put the Oilers ahead 2-1 at 17:39 of the first period with his 13th goal when Tikkanen’s shot from the point deflected off his skate into the net.

Carson made it 3-1 lead with 4 seconds remaining in the second period, scoring off a centering pass from Jari Kurri.

Cavallini got his ninth goal at 18 seconds of the third period with an assist from Bernie Federko. Messier, returning from a 6-game suspension, had an empty-net goal with 22 seconds left.

Boston 2, Philadelphia 1--Bob Sweeney scored twice, including the game-winner 8 seconds into overtime at Boston. The victory snapped the Bruins’ seven-game winless streak.

Sweeney drove Bob Joyce’s rebound past Flyers’ goaltender Mark Laforest after Ken Linseman won the opening faceoff of overtime.

Sweeney gave Boston a 1-0 lead at 13:59 of the first period when a strange bounce off the boards behind the net caught Laforest out of position.
