GOODBY PARTY: Fahrenheit 451 owner Lorraine Zimmerman will host a combination 20th anniversary and goodby party today from 4 to 10 p.m. at the bookstore, 509 South Coast Highway, Laguna Beach. Between 6 and 8 p.m. Richard Turner, who teaches Asian art history and studio art at Chapman College, will sign copies of his novel (co-written with Paul Tate), “Asiatic Hotel.” At 8 p.m. Jay Gummerman will read one of 1952998688Knopf, “We Find Ourselves in Moontown.”

BOOK SIGNINGS: Robert Ray will sign copies of “Dial M for Murdock” from 1 to 3 p.m. today at Book Carnival, 870 N. Tustin Ave., Orange. . . . Author-illustrator Tomie dePaola will sign his latest books, “Baby’s First Christmas,” “Book of Poems,” and “Pages of Music” from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at the Children’s Bookshoppe, 1831 Westcliff Drive, Newport Beach.

WRITER RECEPTION: A dozen writers, including T. Jefferson Parker (“Little Saigon”) and A.E. (Ann and Evan) Maxwell (“Just Enough Light to Kill”) will appear at a reception and book-signing from to 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Scribner Book Store in Crystal Court, South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa.

Other participating authors are Robert Ray, Doug Muir, “Red Star Run”; Gar Haywood, “Fear of the Dark”; Greg Dinallo, “Rockets Red Glare”; Michael Collins, “Red Rosa”; Mark Sadler, “Touch of Death”; Les Roberts, “Pepper Pike”; Mitchell Sam Rossi, “Truk Lagoon”; Roger Simon, “Raising the Dead,” and Elizabeth George, “A Great Deliverance.” Artist Cynthia Cooksey and writer John Wescott will also sign copies of their 15-month Souvenir Edition of the Orange County 1989 Centennial Calendar.

READERS THEATER: Steve Mellow’s Readers Theater will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Scribner Book Store in Crystal Court at South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa. The theme is “Celebration,” featuring stories that celebrate the human spirit. Readings will be from the works of George Bernard Shaw, Mother Teresa, Steven Sondheim, Shel Silverstein, Steve Mellow and the Bible.
