College Roundup : UCI Women Beat USF in Basketball
Natasha Parks led a balanced attack Sunday as UC Irvine defeated the University of San Francisco, 59-44, to finish second in the Freedom Bowl women’s basketball tournament at Irvine.
Parks had 11 points and Jenny Lee 10. Kristi Ahlsetdt, Dana Douty and Sherrell Johnson scored 9 points each.
Johnson hit a 14-foot jump shot to give the Anteaters a 19-17 lead with 5 minutes 10 seconds left in the first half. Johnson’s basket ignited a 10-3 run to close out the half, giving Irvine a 29-20 lead.
In nonconference men’s wrestling:
Oklahoma State 37, Cal State Fullerton 5--The Cowboys lost just 1 match in defeating the Titans in front of 1,700 at Titan Gym. It was the largest crowd to see a Fullerton home wrestling match. Erin Millsap of Fullerton tied Cory Blaze in the 118-pound division, 10-10. From there it was all downhill for Fullerton, which lost the next 8 bouts. The Titans’ David Jones defeating Don Frye, 10-6, in the heavyweight division.
