Woman Stabbed as Daughters Watched
Police were searching Tuesday for the boyfriend of a National City woman who was fatally stabbed Monday night in front of her two daughters.
An all-points bulletin was issued for the arrest of Thomas Jon Kemp, 25, after the killing of Geraline Bertrand, 34, in her home, police Sgt. David Ogilvie said.
Police said Bertrand had been trying to break off her relationship with Kemp for some time and the couple argued frequently. The two reportedly were having a violent quarrel about 6:25 p.m. Monday when Aden Andrews, the boyfriend of Bertrand’s mother, intervened in an attempt to protect Bertrand. While Andrews fought with Kemp, Bertrand called the police, which apparently provoked Kemp to attack her with a knife, police said.
Bertrand was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where she died a short time later.
Police arranged for the victim’s sister to take temporary custody of the daughters, ages 11 and 13.
Police said Kemp, who fled after the stabbing, is a transient who hangs out in downtown San Diego. Police said he is considered armed and dangerous.
He is white, about 6 feet tall and 150 pounds, with shoulder-length, dirty blond hair and a mustache, police said.
