National City
An undercover drug buy turned into a shoot-out in National City on Tuesday morning, police said. No one was injured in the exchange of fire, and two suspects were caught.
A police spokesman said an undercover Narcotics Task Force agent was making a buy in the 300 block of Highland Avenue at 11:30 a.m. when the sellers, who were armed, attempted to rob him. After a struggle, the two men tried to flee in their vehicle, ramming the undercover agent’s car in the process, the spokesman said.
The two men then left their car and ran, and one reportedly fired a shot at officers. A National City police officer, who was called to help, returned fire, but the gunman escaped, the spokesman said.
