Allied Signal Aerospace was selected by the Air Force as prime contractor for development of the Mark XV Identification or Foe System. The program, which has been a long delayed effort to improve electronic identification of military aircraft, is potentially worth $4 billion. Allied Signal’s communications division in Baltimore will do the work, which requires about 100 professionals during the development phase and up to 1,000 during manufacturing. The firm is teamed with Raytheon of Lexington, Mass.
