Local News in Brief : Museum Support Group Formed

Share

A citizens group has been formed to support and improve the Point Vicente Interpretive Center, a museum in Rancho Palos Verdes with exhibits on local history, wildlife and natural features of the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

The museum was built by the city in 1983 with $1.3 million in state, federal and local grants. It is renowned as a spot for watching the annual migration of the Pacific gray whale.

According to the new group, Friends of PVIC, the city is unable to pay for improvements and the group hopes to raise money to install signs explaining such things as shipping channels and coastal ecology, support visiting lecturers and special programs, and create outdoor exhibits. Eventually, the group would like to construct an educational building with a library and auditorium.

Regular yearly memberships are $10, $15 and $25, respectively. Membership information is available at the center, 31501 Palos Verdes Drive West, or by calling Sue Kersey at (213) 377-8865.
