Local News in Brief : Council to Discuss Condo Law

An ordinance designed to encourage development of condominiums in Hawthorne will be discussed at the Dec. 12 meeting of the City Council.
The law would allow condominium development on smaller lots than now permitted, City Manager R. Kenneth Jue said.
After considerable public debate in 1986, the council adopted stricter building standards to slow a wave of apartment development that led to a glut of rental housing. The council has indicated that it would prefer condominium development to apartment construction.
