Hollywood : Plan to Limit Development
The Los Angeles City Planning Commission will consider a proposed ordinance today that would temporarily restrict hillside building on unimproved and substandard streets between the San Diego Freeway and Outpost Drive in Hollywood.
The ordinance, proposed by Councilmen Zev Yaroslavsky and Michael Woo, is intended to limit new development for one year while city officials draft permanent guidelines on hillside building.
City planning officials said narrow streets, incomplete storm drain systems and inadequate parking have created safety problems in some hillside neighborhoods. New building in the areas, they said, is worsening the problems.
The commission is scheduled to take up the matter after 10 a.m. in Room 350 at Los Angeles City Hall, 200 N. Spring St. The commission is expected to make a recommendation to the City Council’s Planning and Environment Committee, which in turn will make a recommendation to the full council. If approved by the council, the proposed ordinance would have to be signed by Mayor Tom Bradley to become law.
