Seeking to salvage its reputation as the sunniest month of the year, November ended with a burst of sunshine and warmth, but partly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures are expected to gradually overtake the first weekend of December.

November’s normal quotient of 74% of possible sunshine was cut by dark skies and 1.39 inches of rain that resulted in the second wettest Nov. 14 and 25 on record in San Diego, said National Weather Service forecaster Wilbur Shigehara. The county received 67% of possible sunshine in November, and 0.29 inches more rain than usual.

“The Santa Ana condition of the past week is moving out, bringing a gradual cooling trend,” Shigehara said. “Even by Friday, the temperatures will be coming down a few degrees each day.”

Some clouds from a dissipating northern storm will grace the skies along the coast Saturday morning, but generally sunny weather will rule, Shigehara said. Santa Ana winds up to 25 m.p.h. in the mountains and deserts are to linger through tonight.

Highs for the beaches of 68 to 72 today and the upper 60s Saturday and Sunday are forecast. The water temperature is 58, and the surf is at 2 to 4 feet.

Coastal highs today of 70 to 76 are forecast, dipping from 68 to 73 Saturday and Sunday. Lows will be in the mid-40s.

Gone are the 80-degree temperatures for the inland areas. This weekend’s highs will retreat to the mid-70s. Overnight lows tonight and Saturday night will range from 37 to 45.

Mountain highs today and Saturday are expected to range from 52 to 62. The lows both nights will be from 28 to 32.

High temperatures in the deserts are forecast to range from 77 to 82 today and from 75 to 80 Saturday. Overnight lows in the 40s are expected.
