Cliff Ronning had 2 goals and an assist, and Greg Millen recorded his second shutout of the season as the St. Louis Blues snapped a 5-game winless streak with an 8-0 victory over the New York Islanders Thursday night at St. Louis.

The Blues, who entered the game with a National Hockey League-low 73 goals in 22 games, matched their biggest single-game output of the season.

The loss equaled the Islanders’ worst shutout loss and margin of defeat.

Calgary 6, New York Rangers 3--Joe Nieuwendyk scored 2 goals as the Flames remained unbeaten at home (11-0-3) with a victory over the Rangers.

Colin Patterson, Joe Mullen, Lanny McDonald and Joel Otto each added a goal for the Flames, who lead the overall standings with 38 points.

Calgary, which has a 9-game unbeaten streak, is the only NHL club without a loss at home this season.

Minnesota 4, Boston 1--Defenseman Mark Hardy scored on a 90-foot wrist shot to break a 1-1 tie in the second period, and the North Stars went on to win at Boston, their fourth victory in a row.

Jon Casey faced 42 Boston shots in the Minnesota goal, including 35 in the last 2 periods.

Montreal 2, Philadelphia 2--Mike Bullard had a goal and an assist in his second game with the Flyers, who tied the Canadiens at Philadelphia to end Montreal’s 3-game winning streak.

Bullard came to the Flyers Tuesday in a trade with the St. Louis Blues for Peter Zezel.

The tie continued Montreal’s regular-season winless streak at the Spectrum. The last regular-season victory for the Canadiens at Philadelphia was on Dec. 16, 1984, when they beat the Flyers, 3-2.

Detroit 7, Quebec 3--Steve Chiasson scored 1 goal and assisted on 3 others as the Red Wings won at Detroit for their 10th victory in 12 games. Quebec, last in the Adams Division at 8-17-2, lost its fourth straight.

After cutting a 4-0 deficit to 4-2 on goals by Michel Goulet and Marc Fortier midway through the second period, the Nordiques appeared ready to make a move. But Red Wing goaltender Greg Stefan stopped Mike Hough on a breakaway and scrambled back into the goal crease to thwart Paul Gillis’ backhander on the rebound, keeping Quebec at bay.

Chiasson scored his goal 29 seconds later as Detroit regained control.
