Weekend TV : PBS Stations Seek Pledges; Telethon for the Needy; Diamond; DeVito

Pledge drives for public television and a telethon for the needy will be part of the weekend TV scene.
Public television stations will be seeking support today as they show a series of folksy specials. Channel 28 has “James Taylor in Concert” at 7:30 p.m., a tribute to Woodie Guthrie and Leadbelly at 9:30 p.m. and a documentary on the 1969 Big Sur Folk Festival at 11 p.m.
Channel 50 follows suit with “A Peter, Paul and Mary Holiday Concert” at 8 p.m. and the Guthrie salute at 10:10 p.m. Channel 15 (San Diego) airs the “Peter, Paul and Mary” program at 9 p.m.
On Sunday, Spanish language station KMEX Channel 34 will carry the annual “Navidad en el Barrio” telethon for needy families from 3-9 p.m., preceded by the Huntington Park Christmas Lane Parade at 1 p.m.
