About 80 passengers boarding an America West 757 airliner were evacuated early Friday at John Wayne Airport when a cockpit instrument light indicated there was a fire in the rear of the plane, officials said.
Orange County firefighters found no smoke or fire, however, and after a mechanical inspection, Flight 4 was allowed to take off for Phoenix 37 minutes late, airline officials said.
The incident occurred about 7 a.m. The light indicated a fire in the auxiliary power unit in the rear of the jet.
