This chronologically and geographically wide-ranging disc gathers 23 pieces in a coherent, carefully structured program. The repertory--ranging from folk songs to motets, from Poland to Spain--is mostly fresh, and so is the playing. The seven-member, vocal and instrumental ensemble delivers strong and spritely performances of Best’s stylish, effective arrangements.
