Yankees to Sign LaPoint for 3 Years
Dave LaPoint, the free-agent pitcher who had a career-high 14 victories last season, has agreed to the terms of a 3-year contract with the New York Yankees.
A source said Saturday the contract was worth about $2.55 million, paying $800,000 in 1989, $850,000 in 1990 and $900,000 in 1991.
LaPoint, 29, a left-hander, had a 10-11 record and 3.40 earned-run average in 25 starts for the Chicago White Sox last season before he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was 4-2 with a 2.77 ERA in 8 starts at Pittsburgh.
