Local News in Brief : Firing of Officer in Sex Case Urged

Share

A Los Angeles Police Department tribunal ruled Tuesday that an officer found guilty of having sex with a male prostitute while off-duty and soliciting two others should be fired, officials said.

Officer Carlos Herrera, 33, was found guilty of 13 counts of misconduct by the police Board of Rights late Monday, Cmdr. William Booth said.

The tribunal of three captains Tuesday recommended that Police Chief Daryl F. Gates fire Herrera, a Southeast Division officer who had been on the force six years. Herrera had been relieved of duty without pay since the charges were filed against him July 19, Booth said.

Gates has five days to either fire Herrera or reduce the penalty, Booth said.
