Telephones Cut Off: An earthmover at a construction project severed a 1,500-circuit telephone cable Friday afternoon, knocking out telephones in about 1,100 homes near the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Imperial Highway. A spokesman for General Telephone said service would not be restored entirely until Saturday afternoon, despite repair crews working through the night. He said a trailer containing public telephones was set up in the area for residents in case they had to make emergency calls.
