Supertitles

Martin Bernheimer’s objection to supertitles at the opera (“Operatic Dilemma: Is an Aria Worth 100 Words?,” Nov. 20) implies that the audience is not intelligent enough to handle a translation and music at the same time.

I can read the titles with ease and not miss a note of the opera. If Bernheimer finds the combination of titles and music too challenging, then he should follow Beverly Sills’ advice and simply not look.
