Santa Ana : Local News in Brief : Expanding Year-Round School to Be Discussed

Share

Expansion of year-round classes in the Santa Ana Unified School District will be discussed at a public hearing at 7 tonight at McFadden Intermediate School, 2701 S. Raitt St.

Expansion of the existing year-round program at Fremont Elementary, 1930 W. 10th St., and initiation of year-round schedules at Remington Elementary, 1325 E. 4th St., and Washington Elementary, 910 Anahurst Place, are under consideration by the school board, said Diane Thomas, public information officer for the district.

Thomas said the board will not vote on the matter until sometime in January.

Fourteen of the 25 elementary schools in the district currently are on year-round schedules, which spread 9 months of school sessions throughout the 12-month calendar year. The scheduling allows the school district to make full use of buildings during summer months and helps ease overcrowding.
