World : 20 Killed in Mexican Prison Fire

MONTERREY, Mexico —
Fire broke out today in a ward at a state penitentiary, killing 20 prisoners and injuring six, a state official said.
Raul Garza, state communications director, said the fire in a ward at Nuevo Leon State Prison broke out about 3 a.m. when a candle in a small altar to the Virgin of Guadalupe, Mexico’s patron saint, ignited a curtain.
