Workers at 2 Factories Sickened by Chemicals

PORTLAND, Conn. —
Fifty-eight factory workers in Portland and Middletown were taken to hospitals after being sickened by chemicals in separate incidents Tuesday, authorities said.
Forty-nine employees of the Jarvis Airfoil Co. in Portland became ill after fumes from a chemical degreaser escaped during an electrical malfunction. In Middletown, nine workers at the Prototype & Plastic Mold Co. Inc. were taken to a hospital after exposure to a chemical sealant.
