JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — An Angolan pilot Tuesday flew a Soviet-built MIG-21 jet fighter to neighboring Namibia and crash-landed the aircraft in a corn field inside the South African-held territory, officials said.
It was not clear whether the pilot defected to South African forces in Namibia (South-West Africa).
Col. John Rolt, a South African military spokesman, said in Pretoria that the pilot, who was not identified, landed on a farm 200 miles inside the border.
