Local News in Brief : Skateboarding Banned in Business District

Share

The Glendale City Council unanimously approved an ordinance Tuesday that will prohibit the use of skateboards in the city’s business districts and in some city parks.

City Manager David Ramsay said the ordinance was necessary because skateboard riders have endangered pedestrians and damaged city property, including $2,000 damage to the Civic Center in the past two years.

One Glendale resident objected to the ordinance at the meeting Tuesday. “I don’t want any of my grandchildren getting arrested by a policeman if they go to a city park and ride a skateboard,” Jean Felkel said.

City Atty. Frank Manzano replied that the ordinance allows the city to designate areas of parks for skateboard riding.
