Sewage Spills Onto Point Loma Avenue
A blocked sewer main caused raw sewage to spill into the street at the foot of Point Loma Avenue near Sunset Cliffs Boulevard on Wednesday evening, health officials said.
The blockage was discovered about 4 p.m., and an estimated 3,600 gallons of sewage flowed through a storm drain into the ocean, a spokesman for the county Department of Health Services said.
The area where the sewage entered the ocean was posted as a hazard to swimmers and divers and will remain closed at least 24 hours, or until the health department declares the water to be safe.
