An unidentified man was fatally injured when he walked in front of a car entering the Ventura Freeway in Calabasas, the California Highway Patrol said Wednesday.

The accident occurred at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on the westbound on-ramp from Parkway Calabasas, Officer Jim Young said.

Anthony Rosen, 27, of Calabasas was driving onto the freeway and looked over his shoulder to see if traffic was approaching, Young said. When Rosen looked forward, he saw a man in the lane ahead, Young said, but it was too late to stop. The victim was struck by Rosen’s car and knocked onto the freeway, where he was hit by another car that did not stop, Young said.

The victim died a short time after his arrival by helicopter at Westlake Community Hospital.

The victim, who was about 60 years old, may have been a transient because he was carrying no identification, Young said. There was no car parked on the side of the freeway, which indicated that the victim was not a motorist, Young said.
