Beverly Hills, which is known for its holiday decorations--bought by the city for $673,542 in 1986--this year spent $108,800 on the displays along Wilshire Boulevard and various shopping areas. The City of Los Angeles, on the other hand, spent nothing on holiday decorations--as with many cities, it leaves the job, and expense, of creating holiday displays to local chambers of commerce.
