The owner of a Lake Isabella pumping service faces a possible jail term and a maximum $10,000 fine for allegedly dumping 1,000 gallons of raw sewage in Sequoia National Forest. “I just figured that no one would see, no one would know,” said Toby Rossback, owner of Rossback and Sons’ Pumping Service. “And I didn’t think it was a criminal act, because raw sewage isn’t like industrial waste or acid that would permanently damage the soil.” Forest rangers cited Rossback for dumping the sewage near Shirley Creek, half a mile inside the forest boundary off California 155. Subsequent tests showed the creek was not contaminated, the Kern County Environmental Health Department reported. Rossback is to appear before a federal magistrate in Bakersfield today.
