Life Aids Lobby, a Sacramento-based advocacy group, this week was awarded $12,000 by the organization that sponsors the annual Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Pride Celebration in West Hollywood.

“We think the work they are doing is vital and deserves the support of the entire gay and lesbian community,” said David Smith, a spokesman for Christopher Street West, the nonprofit corporation that sponsors the annual celebration.

The gift was part of $32,300 in grants to 16 organizations announced this week by Christopher Street West, bringing to more than $100,000 the amount the organization has donated to groups involved in the gay and lesbian community this year.

Smith said the awards, made annually from proceeds from the celebration, “were the most we’ve ever presented.” Christopher Street West donated $75,000 to groups supporting gay and lesbian services last year, he said.
