Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies rappeled down a steep ridge in darkness and rescued two teen-age hikers who were stranded on a ledge in Angeles National Forest, authorities said Sunday.
Diego Chavez and Michael Pando, both 16 and of Cypress, were hiking in the Heaton Flats area above East Fork Road about 5:30 p.m. Saturday when they slipped and tumbled down the ridge to a ledge 100 feet above the road, Deputy Dan Cox said.
A 17-year-old companion hiked out and called deputies. Members of the San Dimas Mountain Rescue Team rappeled down the steep ridge in darkness and rescued them at 9:30 p.m., Cox said.
No injuries were reported.
