Local News in Brief : Tustin : Bus Driver to Regain Job --Drunk Tests Negative

Share

A school bus driver arrested by Tustin police earlier this month on suspicion of drunk driving will be reinstated as a driver for the Tustin Unified School District because the results of laboratory tests revealed no traces of alcohol or drugs in his system.

“Things are all right with me--I’m (going) back to work,” said the driver, Limeo Earley of Anaheim, 25.

He declined further comment on the incident.

Earley was arrested Dec. 2, shortly after dropping off two busloads of elementary school students. Tustin police said he was stopped by military police on the Marine Corps Air Station in Tustin, where school buses go to pick up and drop off children who attend schools off the base.

Earley failed two field sobriety tests at the scene, one given by a military officer and another given by a Tustin police officer who had been called to the Marine base.

However, just a few minutes later at the Tustin police station, Earley’s breath test registered 0.0, indicating that he had no alcohol in his system. Tustin police said subsequent laboratory tests revealed that Earley had no alcohol or drugs in his system.

Tustin Police Capt. Steve Foster said he is satisfied with the test results, so charges against Earley have been dropped.

Earley works for the Pacific Busing Co. of Los Angeles, a private firm that provides bus services for the Tustin Unified School District.

According to the state Department of Motor Vehicles, Earley has no record of drunk driving, and his school and tour bus driving certificates are in good order and unrestricted.
