Local News in Brief : Fire Captain to Get $85,000 Settlement
- Share via
Los Angeles County approved an $85,000 settlement Monday in a $2.2-million lawsuit in which a fire captain claimed he was harassed and treated indifferently within the Fire Department after he was exposed to AIDS while on the job.
The county Claims Board agreed to the settlement with Jon Neil Galiher, who accepted the offer, after a private meeting with county attorneys, Chairwoman Nancy Singer said.
Because the settlement is less than $100,000, it was not subject to review by the Board of Supervisors.
According to court documents, Galiher said he was exposed to acquired immune deficiency syndrome May 19, 1985, when he and three other county firefighters tried to rescue a motorist whose vehicle had gone off a road in Topanga Canyon.
