SAN DIEGO ENTERTAINMENT BRIEF

The San Diego Opera announced Wednesday that it has signed a three-year contract with the American Federation of Musicians, Local 325, for the services of members in the San Diego Opera Orchestra. The last contract expired Aug. 31, and the two parties have been negotiating since then to have a contract before the opera season’s scheduled opening Jan. 21. Both Joe Pallazola, president of Local 325, and Ian Campbell, general director of San Diego Opera, said the negotiations were amicable. Pallazola added that signing a contract before the season’s opening was never in doubt, although a story in the local press raised that specter in late October. Since 1985, the San Diego Opera has had its own orchestra. Before then, the opera had contracted with the San Diego Symphony.
