After serving as managing officer of Great American First Savings Bank in San Diego since 1969, James C. Schmidt announced that he will retire from the position. Schmidt, 61, will continue to serve as Great American’s vice chairman but will no longer be involved in day-to-day operations. President Roger K. Lindland will assume the added position of managing officer, while Gordon C. Luce will retain the title of chairman and chief executive.
