A Pacific Beach man described by a prosecutor as “a one-man crime wave” who may be tied to 225 burglaries in the county, was sentenced Wednesday to four years in state prison, two days after he was sentenced in federal court for another crime.

Brian Headrick, 21, was sentenced Wednesday on a single count of burglary by Municipal Judge Jesus Rodriguez.

Just two days earlier, Headrick was sentenced to five years in federal prison by U. S. District Judge J. Lawrence Irving for stealing computer equipment from Navy property. Rodriguez ordered that the four-year sentence for the burglary run concurrently with the five-year federal term. He also denied Headrick probation.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Wes Schermann described Headrick as a one-man crime wave whose chosen profession was being a burglar.

Schermann said the detective investigating the case estimated that Headrick may be tied to 225 burglaries throughout the county. However, Headrick has not been charged with any other burglaries since his Aug. 17 arrest. But he has been charged with receiving stolen property and faces a Jan. 20 preliminary hearing in that case.

Schermann urged the judge to impose a six-year sentence, calling it an aggravated case.

Headrick’s attorney, James Pasto, said that, at the time of the burglary, Headrick was a heavy user of methamphetamine. Since he has been off the drug in jail, he has been a model prisoner, Pasto said.

Headrick pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary in September, involving a burglary he committed while the occupants of the house were at home. He had faced a maximum six-year term and a $10,000 fine.

Headrick is also known by the alias Brian Gregory Adams.
