San Diego police Thursday arrested a 21-year-old Sacramento man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of another man in Sacramento.

Royal Jones was captured without incident at 7 p.m. in a halfway house for runaway juveniles in the 3100 block of Redwood Street, police Sgt. Al Beckett said. The unarmed suspect gave himself up after police surrounded the building, Beckett said.

Jones was wanted by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department in connection with the slaying Sunday of a neighbor, Chris Smith, after an argument over the volume of Jones’ stereo, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.

Smith, who was shot several times with a .22-caliber rifle, was found dead Sunday afternoon in the parking lot of the apartment building where Smith and Jones lived.

Jones, who was paroled from prison about 10 months ago, was arrested on suspicion of homicide and parole violation, Beckett said. He is expected to be returned to Sacramento next week.
