Victoria Principal and James Farentino will play lovers whose romance comes into conflict with their professional lives in “Inadmissible Evidence,” a TV movie for CBS. Farentino portrays a judge who is assigned to a case that is being prosecuted by the lawyer played by Principal. Principal, a former co-star of “Dallas,” is also executive producer.

Dick Wilson, a radio and TV personality in Kansas City, has been tapped to host a new variety show on the USA cable network. “USA’s Camp Midnite,” billed as a 90-minute combination of interviews, music clips and unusual acts, will air Fridays at midnight, beginning Jan. 6. Dick Clark is the executive producer.

CBS has set next Sunday as the broadcast date for “The Karen Carpenter Story,” starring Cynthia Gibb as the late pop singer. Mitchell Anderson plays her brother, Richard Carpenter (who served as executive producer of the film). The cast also features Louise Fletcher and Peter Michael Goetz as the duo’s parents.

Whoopi Goldberg is starring in a “CBS Schoolbreak Special” about the civil rights movement. Titled “My Past Is My Own,” the hourlong drama casts Goldberg as a woman who teaches two modern-day black teen-agers to “appreciate the equality they currently enjoy due to the generation that risked their lives to achieve it.”
