A Nevada County Superior Court jury has convicted a 49-year-old man of first-degree murder in the 1987 shooting of disc jockey Stephen Cole. The jury reached its verdict Friday against Robert Crom after eight hours of deliberation. The jury Thursday said it was deadlocked, but the judge sent jurors back for more talks Friday morning. Crom will be sentenced Jan. 20. He faces a sentence of 27 years to life. Cole, 31, and Crom were neighbors in rural Nevada County. Prosecutors said Crom killed Cole because he was convinced the KVMR disc jockey had stolen marijuana plants from his garden in 1983.
