Share

Four Democrats and a Republican have filed papers to run in a Feb. 7 special election to fill the 50th District Assembly seat of Curtis Tucker (D-Inglewood), who died in October.

The Democrats include Curtis Tucker Jr., the late assemblyman’s son, who has the backing of Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (D-San Francisco). Also running as Democrats are Inglewood school board member Lois Hill-Hale; political consultant Roderick Wright, and Los Angeles Police Officer Carl McGill.

Inglewood Mayor Edward Vincent and Los Angeles Councilman Robert Farrell had expressed interest in the race but did not file qualifying papers by the deadline Tuesday.

The only Republican in the race is businessman Michael Davis, who has run for the seat twice before.

The heavily Democratic district encompasses El Segundo, Inglewood, Lennox, Westchester and parts of south Los Angeles.

Democrats and Republicans run on the same ballot in the special election. If no candidate gains more than 50% of the vote, the top Democratic and Republican vote-getters will face one another in a runoff April 11.
