Local News in Brief : Stanton : Man Killed in Trying to Pass Slower Vehicle

A 26-year-old Stanton man was killed when he tried to pass a car on Orangewood Boulevard and crossed into oncoming traffic, police said Tuesday.

Daniel Gaborno was driving his Chevrolet pickup truck east on Orangewood about 6:10 p.m. Monday when he accelerated to 75 m.p.h. to pass a slower vehicle, California Highway Patrol Officer Leslie Hill said.

Gaborno lost control of the truck and crossed into westbound traffic, where he was struck broadside by a Chevrolet Blazer traveling about 25 m.p.h., Hill said.

Gaborno and a 21-year-old male passenger, who were not wearing seat belts, were thrown from the truck; Gaborno was killed and the passenger seriously injured, Hill said.

The driver of the Blazer, Jus Marquez, 21, and two young passengers, all of Stanton, received minor injuries. They were wearing seat belts, Hill said.
