Local News in Brief : Holiday Traffic Toll in L.A. Put at 16

Sixteen people died in traffic accidents in the Los Angeles area over the Christmas weekend that began at 6 p.m. Friday and ended at midnight Monday, the California Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.
There were no fatal traffic accidents in the area during the holiday weekend last year.
Statewide, 58 people were killed, compared to 39 last year. Officials said inclement weather, including snow, fog and rain, may have contributed to this year’s total.
In the Los Angeles area, 354 motorists were arrested over the weekend for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, up from 298 last year.
