Local News in Brief : San Juan Capistrano : City Seeks State Money for 4 Historical Sites
The city of San Juan Capistrano has applied for state grant money to acquire, rehabilitate and develop four historical sites in the city.
The city is requesting a total of $1.78 million for the four projects from the History and Archeology Grant Program, which is administered by the state Department of Parks and Recreation.
The proposed projects involve the 19th-Century Judge Richard Egan House; the Joel Congdon House, built in 1877 and the oldest surviving wooden structure in the city; the historic Blas Aguilar Adobe, and the El Horno Kiln, all near Mission San Juan Capistrano.
The grant applications will be evaluated by the state Office of Historic Preservation on a statewide competitive basis. Projects awarded funds will be selected by Feb. 1, 1989, for inclusion in the state budget. Final approval for funding will await passage of the state budget, which becomes effective July 1, 1989.
