Local News in Brief : Presiding Judge Elected

Municipal Judge Fumiko Hachiya Wasserman has been elected by fellow judges as presiding judge of the South Bay Municipal Court for 1989.

Wasserman’s duties will include managing the court’s calendar, assigning cases among the court’s eight judges and supervising operations of the court, which serves most of the South Bay.

Wasserman succeeds Judge William Willett in the 1-year post.

She is a graduate of UCLA and the Loyola School of Law. Wasserman served as a deputy city attorney in Los Angeles, a law clerk in U.S. District Court and an assistant U.S. attorney before being appointed by Gov. George Deukmejian to the Municipal Court in 1986.

The South Bay Municipal Court, which is in Torrance, serves Gardena, Hermosa Beach, Lawndale, Lomita, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates and Torrance.
