Starting Center Sykes Suspended
John Sykes, Cal State Fullerton’s starting center the past 3 games, has been suspended indefinitely for disciplinary reasons, Coach John Sneed said.
Sneed said Sykes was suspended after practice Wednesday but refused to elaborate. Sykes was not with the team at Friday’s game.
Cedric Ceballos, Fullerton’s leading scorer, said that Sykes broke a team rule. “He was not doing what (Sneed) asked him to do,” Ceballos said.
Although Sykes was suspended Wednesday, he was present at a team meeting Thursday.
Asked when Sykes would return, Sneed said “when he comes back to talk to me about it.”
Sykes, who scored a career-high 14 points in Fullerton’s double-overtime loss to New Orleans Tuesday, is averaging 5 points and 7 rebounds a game.
