Bruin, Trojan Unite : Football Foes Fight Pacoima Drug Traffic
Two former football players, UCLA linebacker Gene Muborn and USC fullback Kennedy Pola now serve on the same real estate team, battling an opponent that doesn’t play by the rules.
The two are representatives of Griffin Homes’ Glenoaks, a 315-unit condominium and townhouse development at 11150 Glenoaks Blvd., Pacoima.
They work with community groups, schools, recreation centers and individual families to help reduce illegal drug dealing in the neighborhood.
The two have found that one of the most effective ways to combat drug pushers is to beat them at their own game--walking through the neighborhood.
“Many drug pushers make sales by walking the streets and meeting people. In our walks, we talk with families, telling them what they can do to stop the drug traffic. We emphasize the local groups that are available to help them.”
To help students who have an interest in making real estate a career, the two take them to Glenoaks to meet the carpenters, roofers, sales staff and others who work on the project.
Griffin Homes also sponsors education and recreation programs at the Pacoima Boys and Girls Club.
Prices in the Cape Cod-styled project range from $67,990 to $98,990, with monthly payments starting at $538.
Glenoaks has received commendations from the City of Los Angeles and from Archbishop Roger Mahony of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
