Is the godfather of soul now the grandfather of soul? Singer James Brown has been moved to the State Park Prison in Columbia, S.C., a minimum-security facility for older and handicapped inmates, to serve his six-year sentence for failing to stop for police and two counts of aggravated assault. Corrections Department spokesman Francis Archibald said the prison was chosen because of Brown’s age, 55, and the nature of his crimes. Also, recreation is not stressed at State Park. “Considering all the things we know about Mr. Brown, we felt this would be the best place for him,” Archibald said. Brown, who will be eligible for parole in June 1990, could be assigned to clean-up detail, kitchen duty or aiding handicapped inmates but Archibald said he won’t be doing any singing “unless he does so on an impromptu basis.”
