Officers in Winslow, Ariz., cheered upon learning of the apparent suicide of a man sought in the fatal shooting of an Arizona deputy sheriff and a robbery in California. “I might sleep tonight,” Navajo County Sheriff Gary Butler said after a SWAT team burst into a ranch cabin near Winslow and found the body of one of two men who had been sought in the shooting of Deputy Bob Varner. Officers surrounding the cabin cheered “All right!” when they learned that Douglas Savory, 45, was dead from a gunshot wound to the face. Another suspect, identified as Raul Lopez, was arrested later, authorities said. Varner, 51, was shot after apparently stopping a car in which Savory and Lopez were riding, investigators said. A warrant from San Bernardino County accused Savory of robbery and kidnaping.
