The National City Police Department was awarded a $402,000, 3 1/2-year grant by the State Office of Criminal Justice Planning, to aid in tracking and apprehending career criminals.
The grant, known as C-CAP (career criminal apprehension program), was sought by National City, which has the the county’s highest crime rate.
The program is designed to improve law enforcement’s ability to track, identify, arrest and assist in the prosecution of habitual criminals.
The city of National City plans to provide a 10% local cash match the first year, 20% the second year, and 35% the remaining 18 months.
The Oceanside Police Department, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, and Chula Vista Police Department are also operating C-CAP programs.
